This ASX listed property group, recently went through a significant restructure refocusing direction away from its commercial property portfolio and non-core development assets. The focus of the Group going forward is to capitalise on its leading market position within the affordable accommodation sector.

As a result of the restructure the business needed to shift its operations to where the market opportunity presented itself, which meant moving the head office from Perth to the east coast. As majority of the leadership team took a redundancy package, with only the CEO and CFO moving across Australia; the business required the help of a recruitment firm to source an entirely new team.

The Group decided to utilise several recruitment agencies, including Aston Carter, to assist with fulfilling their requirements.

The difficult and competitive nature of this project - hiring senior staff in a short space of time - wasn't the only challenge that Aston Carter had to address. While bringing on skilled staff was essential, it was also important to establish a new, cohesive company culture among the new members of the team, and ensure they would work well with the existing leadership team.

Aston Carter first received a brief for the ideal candidates, which was then used to develop a proposal across two required functions – marketing and finance. Aston Carter then began to recruit the required staff, with a focus on revenue and yield management in marketing. Using our vast talent pool and insight, it was easy to identify appropriate candidates based on their qualifications and experience. This also informed what questions to ask when candidates came in for an interview.

Working with the Group using a retained recruitment model, Aston Carter worked to uncover the best possible staff in a short time frame. It's important to note that these staff also needed to have skills and experience relevant to the new area of focus for the business.

Such a deadline-driven project meant Aston Carter formed a strong partnership with the senior management, who entrusted Aston Carter to successfully hire high quality candidates who would support the establishment of the new teams and develop the right company culture. It was about selling the dream of the company to the candidates - creating a cohesive culture.

The Group is now well established on the east coast of Australia, following a smooth transition from Perth. While moving an entire head office across the country was certainly a challenge, Aston Carter was able to support the move whilst ensuring there was no loss of expertise or culture.

Now, the Group is ready to consolidate their position in the accommodation industry with a team that understands the challenges of the sector.
